Rachel Louise Etheridge

Graveside services for Rachel Louise Etheridge, 74, of Leland will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 23 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. She died Wednesday, December 20 at Arbor Walk, Greenville. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland. 

Mrs. Etheridge was born on April 25, 1943 to Joseph Wilburn Gower and Dorothy June Caudle Gower. She married Earl Wayne Etheridge and she worked at Farmer's Feed and Supply of Leland as a secretary for numerous years. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, son, Earl Wayne Etheridge, Jr. and brother, Joseph Wilburn Gower, Jr. 

She is survived by her son, William Joseph Etheridge (April) of Boyle and grandson, William Alexander Etheridge of Boyle. 

John Reed will be officating the services. Pallbearers will be David Wardlow, Richard Taylor, Michael Newman and Mack Gower.

 

James Earl Evans

Funeral services for James Earl Evans, 85, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 21 at Boone-Smith Funeral Home, 1580 S. Colorado. He died Monday, December 18 at Delta Regional Medical Center. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. 

He was born in Trion, GA where he attended school. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. After his discharge he married Sylvia Reynolds. They made their home in Georgia and moved to Clinton, MS in 1965 where he was employed at Southern Carton Company also known as Consolidated Packaging. They then moved to Greenville in 1979 where he became the plant manager at Mebane Packaging and worked until his retirement. Mr. Evans was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia in 2013. He is survived by two daughters, Robin E. French of Brandon and Angie E. McGaugh of Leland; a son, Randall James Evans of Xenia, OH; four brothers, Fate Evans of Cropwell, AL, Michael "Mackie" Evans of Villa Rica, GA, Willard Evans of Villa Rica, GA and Kenneth Evans of Kennesaw, GA; three sisters, Phyllis Pritchard of Bremen, GA, Scarlett Padgett of Bremen, GA and Dale McPhearson of Temple, GA; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. 

There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

 

Lawrence Wilburn (Larry) Long III

Graveside services for Lawrence Wilburn Long III (Larry), 85, of Indianola will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 16 at Cedarlawn Cemetery in Jackson. He died Wednesday, December 13 in Indianola. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Indianola. 

Mr. Long was born August 16, 1932 to Lawrence W. Long, MD and Anne Wright Long. He attended Power School, Bailey Junior High, and Darlington School in Rome, GA where he was a graduate of the class of 1950. He received a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University in 1955 and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He then served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant. 

Following his military service, Larry and his wife Frances May Long moved to Yazoo City, MS where he worked for more than 35 years at Mississippi Chemical Corporation and raised their three children. Larry was a faithful member of the Yazoo City First United Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class for over 55 years. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Manchester Academy, the Rotary Club of Yazoo City, and a Paul Harris Fellow. 

Hunting, flying, and spending time at his family farm in Satartia, MS were his passions. He especially excelled at wingshooting, which he enjoyed throughout his life. Larry received his private pilot's license after his retirement and spent many happy hours flying his Cessna and Navion airplanes. He was instrumental in planning and organizing the first Yazoo County Bar-B-Que Fly-In, featuring Navion pilots from across the United States as well as other types of aircraft. 

Larry is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Frances May Long; son, Lawrence Childress Long (Irene) of Indianola, MS; daughters, Anne Long Jones (Chip) of Anniston, AL and Frances Long Royal (Robert) of Midnight, MS; sister, Cornelia Long Matson (Richard) of Sarasota, FL; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Long Friary (Richard), Lawrence Wilburn (Will) Long (Jane Critz), Margaret Ross Long, Anne Rob Sommers (Steven), Andrew Treloar Jones (Mikala), Mary Frances Atwood (Zachary), Stephen Lawrence Jones (Hannah), Edward Elliot Royal, Laura Ellis Royal and six great-grandchildren. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Mississippi United Methodist Foundation, P. O. Box 2415, Ridgeland, MS 39158, or to the charity of the donor's choice.

 

James Thomas O'Brien

A visitation for James Thomas O'Brien, 73, of Greenville will from 11:00-12:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 19 at Boone Funeral Home. He died Sunday, December 17 at Delta Regional Medical Center. A private burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. 

He was born in Greenville where he graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School and then graduated from Delta State University. After graduation he married Betty Johnson making their home in Greenville where he was employed with City Group, retiring in 2014. 

He is survived by his wife, Betty Johnson O'Brien; two sons, Tommy O'Brien (Angela) of Pell City, AL and Chris O'Brien (Angie) of Vicksburg; brother, Mike O'Brien (Glynda) of Canton, GA and six grandchildren. 

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.

 

Jimmy Etheridge

Funeral services for Jimmy Etheridge, 69, of Leland will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 12 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. He died Saturday, December 9 at Delta Regional Medical Center. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland. 

Jimmy was born in Hollandale, MS on December 13, 1947, to Willie F. Etheridge and Inez Etheridge. He grew up in Leland, MS. He graduated from Leland High School, where he was a member of the FFA. He received his Associates Degree from Mississippi Delta Community College, his B.S. in Entomology from Mississippi State University and his Masters Degree in Entomology from the University of Arkansas. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army. Jimmy was employed by Chevron Chemical Company/Valent USA for 40 years. 

He was an avid hunter and loved to just be in the woods watching all wildlife, and loved being with his family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Valerie Jeanette Strickland Etheridge; son, Jim Etheridge, Jr.; daughter, Amanda L. Etheridge Watson; brother, Robert Etheridge (Nan) ; sister, Barbara J. Etheridge Barrett (Shelby); granddaughter, Caitlyn M. Watson; grandson, Cole Watson, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews. 

There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Collin Watson, Ray Barrett, Ray Barrett, Jr., David Trahan, Bart Trahan, and Jeremy Hughes.
