Funeral services for Walter A. “Bud” Gafford, 92, of Leland will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. He died Friday, March 1, 2013 at his home in Leland. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with Military Rites, under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland. Mr. Gafford was born in Etta, MS moving to Wayside where he graduated from high school. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving during WWII and was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. He was a member of the VFW, Elks Club and American Legion. He retired from Texas Gas and farming. He married Jeanne Emerson in 1946 and she preceded him in death in 1978. He later married Polly Steen in 1981. Mr. Gafford is survived by his wife of 31 years, Polly Steen Gafford of Leland; son, Michael Gafford (Nancy) of Greenville; daughter, Pam G. Jeffcoat of Brandon; 3 stepdaughters, Linda S. Yule (Don) of Clinton, Pam S. Horton (Mike) of Indianola and Kathy Steen of Clinton; stepson, David Steen (Deb) of Leland; 14grandchildren, Lisa Kemp, Scott Gafford, Jeff Jeffcoat, Chuck Jeffcoat, Cole Loper, Sommer Thompson, Lacy Rhodes, Steve Verner, Keith Verner, Lacy Tollison, Michael Orsak, Stephanie Ewing, Lloyd Steen, and David Steen; and 19 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. Memorials may be made to Grace Community Hospice. The family wishes to thank Grace Community Hospice, especially Faye Reddell, for all of their kind and gentle treatment of their father/husband.
