William Pollard Godwin

Funeral services for William Pollard Godwin, 85, of Greenville will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, Greenville.  He died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Delta Regional Medical Center.  Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. Mr. Godwin was born in Norfolk, VA on February 19, 1928.  He had been a resident of Greenville since 1932 and graduated from Greenville High School in 1945.  Mr. Godwin served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1945-1947. He married Alice Black in 1949 and she preceded him in death in 2001. He was employed with England Motor Company for many years and retired from the Corp. of Engineers after 27 years of service. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church serving in many capacities throughout the years.  He was a scout leader for Troop 50, which was sponsored by First United Methodist and he was a member of the American Legion.  In July of 2004 he married Billie Myers Godwin. He is survived by his wife, Billie Myers Godwin of Greenville; daughter, Alice Melinda Godwin of Brandon; 2 sons, William E. Godwin (Janet) of Boyle and Charles R. Godwin (Pam) of Dacula, GA; 3 step sons, Allen Potter (Debbie) of Greenville, Mark Potter (Rhonda) of Greenville and Chris Potter (Cindy) of Hollandale; 6 grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2013 at First United Methodist Church.
