Stanley Craig Walters

Funeral services for Stanley Craig Walters, 91, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 30, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Greenville.  He died  Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Delta Regional Medical Center.  Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mr. Walters was born in Laurel, MS and grew up in Ellisville, MS where graduated from the Ellisville City Schools.  He then attended Jones County Junior College and the University of Alabama.  In 1945, he married Sarah Gann of Birmingham, AL.

Mr. Walters served in the Marine Corps during World War II for 28 months in the Pacific Theatre with the Fourth Marine Division.  He saw duty on Roi-Namur, Siapan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima.  He later served with the Naval Reserve as a Chief Journalist and Public Information Officer.

In 1967 he moved to Greenville where he was an Industrial Relations Director with Atkins Saw Division of Nicholson File Company.  In 1985 he retired as Executive Vice President at Mainstream Shipyards and Supply, Inc.  Mr. Walters was accredited Executive in Personnel by the American Society of Personnel Administration Institute and Society of Human Resource.

Mr. Walters was on President Reagan’s Advisory Committee on JPTA in 1982, he served on the Board of Directors of Mississippi Manufacturers Association for 2 terms, was National Vice President of The Propeller Clubs of the United States, was Chairman for Local Planning Council – JPTA South Delta Planning and Development District from 1982-2000. He was also active with the SDA of Mississippi Economic and Community Development Council, serving on many of its committees and sub-committees, was on State Job Training Coordinating Council for 2 terms and State Vocational Training Council for 1 term.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church with 2 terms as Chairman Administrative Board, 3 terms on Board of Trustees with 2 of those as chairman and was on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sarah Gann Walters; their two daughters, Beth Lord of Greenville and Peggy Allen (Wayne) of Highland Village, TX; 5 grandchildren, Lisa Lord, Dr. Allison Lord Griffin (Jeff), Craig Allen (Katherine), Cody Allen, and Ashlyn Allen; and 1 great grandson, Shane Griffin.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Friday, November 30, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Greenville.
