Indianola, MS Funeral services for Dorothy “Dot” Holland Beard, 87, of Indianola were 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at First United Methodisit Church, Indianola. She died Thursday, March 21 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, Greenwood, MS. Burial followed in the Indianola City Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Boone-Card Funeral Home, Indianola. Mrs. Beard was born in Greenville, MS on October 16, 1925 and was a lifelong resident of Indianola. She graduated from Indianola High School and attended Judson College. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible memory classes. For many years she would conduct spelling bees at the Care Inn for the enjoyment of the residents. She participated in Explorer’s Bible Study for many years. Mrs. Beard was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Virgie Holland and her husband of 65 years, Vernon G. Beard. She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Beard Miller (Bobby) of Huntsville, AL; a son, Vernon Gamble Beard, Jr. (Judy) of Memphis, TN; four grandchildren, Meredyth Miller of Birmingham, AL, Todd Miller of Nashville, TN, Drew Beard of Mason, TN, and Griffin Beard (Molly) of Birmingham, AL; and one great grandchild, Mary Drew Beard.
