James Michael “Mike” Phillips

Funeral services for James Michael “Mike” Phillips, 69, of Greenville will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.  He died Saturday, October 22, 2011 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson.  Arrangements are under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville. Mike was born May 2, 1942 in Greenville to the late Herbert Leon Phillips and the late Mary Evelyn Hoffman Phillips Eakin of Greenwood.  He retired from Tower Loan Finance Company and he was a previous co-owner of Jackson, The Mississippi Magazine and later known as The Mississippi Magazine with his brother, Herb. He graduated from Eupora High school where he played football.  He was an “avid” golfer, sports enthusiast, and animal lover.  He was known as the rescuer of animals. He will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, fun-loving grandfather, and a dear friend.  He was loved by all who met him and he will be sadly missed. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Ann Coleman Phillips of Eupora and by his brother, Herb Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Karen Booker Phillips of Greenville, two daughters, Stacia Ann Phillips of East Hartford, CT and Kimberley Phillips Cooper and her husband Gerald of Summit, MS; two granddaughters, Katie and Kelli of Summitt, two grandsons, Michael Cockrell and wife Lora Leigh of Oxford and Josh Cooper of Summit; and a sister, Cynthia Phillips Cockrell of Sumter, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00-6:30 p.m.
