William “Bill” Trotter, Jr.

Memorial services for William C. “Bill” Trotter, Jr., 89, of Greenville will be at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, Greenville.  He died Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.  Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery, Grenada, MS at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012 with military honors.  Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. Mr. Trotter was born March 26, 1923 in Memphis, TN the son of W. C. “Chuck” Trotter and Susie McLean Trotter.  He attended University High School in Oxford, MS and graduated from Sewanee Military Academy in Sewanee, TN in 1941. He attended Mississippi State University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.  He married his lifelong sweetheart, Sally Bryant Stone of Coffeeville, MS on November 12, 1944.  A member of the Greatest Generation, Bill was commissioned a lieutenant in the United States Army and saw combat with the 97th Infantry Division in Germany and Czechoslovakia.  At the end of WWII, he was then assigned to Japan during the occupation where he served as a member of the 11th Airborne.  Returning to Mississippi, he graduated from Mississippi State with a B.S. in Agricultural Economics. Bill entered the life insurance business in 1949 and spent 40 years as a successful sales representative and manager operating his own insurance firm Bill Trotter Agency in Greenville.  After retirement he enjoyed singing and entertaining at area nursing homes as well as being a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir.  He was a 50-plus year member of the Greenville Kiwanis Club.  He is survived by his wife Sally Stone Trotter, his two sons W. C. “Cham” Trotter III (Jane) of Belzoni and Ike Stone Trotter (Beverly) of Greenville, five grandchildren: Lisa Trotter Melton (Floyd) of Greenwood, Dr. John McLean Trotter (Lisa) of Fairhope, AL, Dr. Germaine Gottsche (Michael) of Ocean Springs, Melinda Trotter Thompson (Daniel) of Batesville, and Dr. Bryant Collins Trotter (Ann Christopher) of Hernando, and seven great-grandchildren.
