Mildred Griffin Schoonover

Funeral services for Mildred Griffin Schoonover, age 85, of Greenville will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 24 at St. James Episcopal Church, Greenville.  She died Friday, July 20 at University Medical Center in Jackson from injuries received in a fall on June 25th.  Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Mrs. Schoonover was born in Greenville on August 15, 1926, the daughter of P.B. Sr. and Mary Etta Davis Griffin.  She attended the Greenville Public Schools and graduated Greenville High School as salutatorian of her class in 1945.  In 1969 she began working in the tax assessor’s office as deputy.  In January 1980 she became the elected Washington County Tax Assessor and served in that office until her retirement, December 31, 1991.
Midred was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and was very active in many of the church guilds.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Ellen Griffin Stovall and Margaret Ann Griffin Ott; and five brothers, Hall Griffin, Jamie Griffin, P.B. Griffin, Jr., Davis Griffin, and Thomas (Buddy) Griffin.  She is survived by her husband, Ray R. Schoonover of Greenville; a son, Michael Hart Williams (Carolyn) of Richmond, TX; a grandson, Jason Michael Williams of Richmond, TX; a granddaughter, Jennifer Nichole Teichman (Jordan) of Richmond, TX; a great-grandson, Jayden Barrett Teichman of Richmond, TX; and two brothers, Billy Griffin (Betty) of Greenville and Richard Griffin (Helen) of Booneville, AR.
A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 24 in the Parish Hall of St. James Episcopal Church.  Memorials may be made to Delta Center Stage.
