Funeral services for George Thomas “Tom” Hutchison, age 90, of Avon, MS will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 17 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Sunday, July 15 at his home. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Tom was a native of Avon and graduated from Riverside High School. He attended East Mississippi Junior College and then served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. After his discharge, he returned to Avon and was engaged in farming. He married Elizabeth Sandidge in 1949. Tom was later employed with Meadors Chevrolet and Vickery Chevrolet retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Avon United Methodist Church.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, J.N. and Eva Thomas Hutchison, a brother, John Neal Hutchison, Jr., and 2 brothers-in-law, Lynwood Sandidge and James Sandidge.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Sandidge Hutchison of Avon; 2 sisters-in-law, Myrtis Sandidge of Hollandale and Sue Sandidge of Leland; 3 nephews, Lyn Sandidge (Nita) of Diamondhead, MS, Ralph Sandidge of Leland, and James Sandidge of Orlando, FL; 2 great-nieces, Emily Pieralisi (Brian) of Leland and Lauren Sandidge of Birmingham, AL; 1 great-nephew, Thomas Sandidge of Leland; and 2 first cousins, George Thomas of Goodman, MS and Hobby Hammock of Quitman, MS.
A visitation will be held 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 17 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. The family extends a special thank you to Tom’s caregivers, James McCoy and his daughter, Latoya Black. Memorials may be made to the Avon United Methodist Church.
