Warren Irving Hammett

Funeral services for Warren Irving Hammett, 85, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Greenville.  He died peacefully at home on Saturday September 22, 2012. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery, Stoneville under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. Warren Irving Hammett was born in Kings Daughter Hospital, Greenville to Henry Key Hammett and Lillian Dagenhardt Hammett on November 5, 1926.  He was the youngest of their three children. His sister, Lillian Bradley Hammett now lives in Clarkesville Tennessee and his brother Henry Key Hammett, Jr.  is deceased. Mr. Hammett graduated from Greenville High School in 1945. He received a Batchelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Mississippi State University in 1949. Warren Hammett was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenville and was active as a Deacon and as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club from 1970 until 2006 and was a past president. Mr. Hammett was President of H. K. Hammett and Sons, Inc. and of W W Farms, Incorporated.  He also served on the Board at Greenville Compress Company and was a member of the Board and past President of Farmers, Incorporated.  Mr. Hammett served as a member of the Board of Directors for Twin County Electric Association since 1968 and held the office of President since 2003. He was a past member of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Hammett was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Public Life Insurance Company from 1979 until 1999. Warren Hammett was an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 51 in the 1950s. He was a founding member of Bon Vivant Supper Club. Mr. Hammett was a keen tennis player, an enthusiastic and skilled golfer and an avid fisherman. Warren Hammett married Jean Claire Aldridge (deceased 1985) in 1952. They had two children, Warren Hammett Junior of Greenville Mississippi and Jean Claire Hammett-Moore of London, England. Mr. Hammett married Mary Ann Baldwin Donald on January 31,  1995. Mr. Hammett is survived by his sister, Lillian H. Bradley, his wife Mary Ann Baldwin Hammett, his two children Warren Irving Hammett, Jr. and Claire Hammett-Moore, his four step children ,  Dudley Donald Jr., Darlene D. Shrock, Deles D. Farley and Carole D. Stolz, his five grandchildren Catharine Aldridge Hammett, Ellen Kent Hammett, Warren Irving Hammett, III, Christina Jean  Moore-Gotcher and Samuel Lee Moore, ten step grandchildren and one step great granddaughter. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.  They will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday at the church.
