Funeral services for Katherine Smylie, age 87, a retired financial secretary for the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville, will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 9 at First Presbyterian Church, Greenville. She died Friday, January 6 in Jackson. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. Mrs. Smylie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was an active member of the Presbyterian Women and co-chairman of the XYZ Club. She was born in Schlater, MS, grew up in Greenwood and graduated from Greenwood High School and attended Draughn’s Business School. She had a long business career having been employed for over twenty-nine years as financial secretary for the First Presbyterian Church. A long time member of the Presbyterian Women’s Circle, she received an honorary life membership. Mrs. Smylie was also a member of the Junior Womans Club, the Coterie Club, the Greenville Revelers Club, the Young at Heart Club in Greenwood, and an active member of the Republican Women. Survivors include her husband, Wat Smylie, her daughter, Kathy Barton (Mike); her son, Jim Smylie (Tanya); four grandchildren, Tucker Smylie, Courtney Barton, Kate Barton, and Tyler Barton; and a sister, Mrs. Charles (Gerry) Brock of Drew. Visitation will be one hour before the service, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Monday, at First Presbyterian Church, Greenville. The family requests memorials be made to the church. boonefuneralhomeinc.com
