James Maurice Hastings, Sr.

Funeral services for James Maurice Hastings, Sr., 83, of Leland will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Leland United Methodist Church. He died Sunday, January 22 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis.  Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland. He was born in Natchez moving to Leland where he graduated from high school in 1949.  He served in the U.S. Army receiving the rank of Staff Sergeant 1st Class.  After his discharge he returned to Leland where he owned and operated Leland Plumbing.  He was a Volunteer Fireman serving for 58 years and was Fire Chief from 1967 until retiring in 1993.  He was also City Inspector.  He was a member of the Mississippi Fire Fighters Association, and served as board member of the Deer Creek Town and Racquet Club where he maintained the pool for as along as people can remember.  He was a member of the Leland United Methodist Church where he served as Trustee. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Goldman Hastings of Leland; daughter, Bonnie Hastings Teichert of Olive Branch; 2 sons, James Maurice Hastings, Jr. of Oxford and David Scott Hastings of Louisville, KY; a sister, Evelyn Kerr of Charlottesville, VA; and 8 grandchildren. The family received friends Monday, January 23, 2012 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
