Betty Barnes Jones peacefully entered her heavenly home on Thursday, May 28th. Funeral services for Betty Barnes Jones, formerly of Greenville, MS, will be held at 10:00 am on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Cane Creek Primitive Baptist Church at 1019 Cane Creek Church Rd., Rives, TN 38253. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville, MS.
Heaven gained a kind, caring, loving Christian woman. Betty had a smile that would light up a room, and she had a way of bringing laughter and joy to any room she walked into. Betty’s faith was strong, and her loving impact on family, church, and community is a true legacy. She has been reunited with her husband, Preston, and her son, P.O, Jr. We are forever thankful for the love that she had for our family. We love you and will miss you greatly until we meet again.
Mrs. Betty B. Jones was born on November 14, 1933, in Obion County, TN, to Lexie Alexander Barnes and Alma Holloway Barnes.
On June 7, 1952, she married Preston O. Jones, Sr, her high school sweetheart. They began their life together in Union City, TN, and later moved to Greenville, MS in 1958.
Betty’s early career was in banking, a homemaker, and finally retiring after 28 years as a school crossing guard. She enjoyed visiting with family, grandchildren, and all of her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed going to various sporting events with friends, playing cards, and working puzzles. She was a member of Lighthouse Mission Church and a former member of Parkview Baptist Church, both located in Greenville, MS.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Preston O. Jones, Sr., her son Preston O. Jones Jr., her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lexie Alexander Barnes, and her brother Lexie E. Barnes.
She is survived by her brother Samuel Kirk Barnes (Kay) of Lowell, Michigan, her daughter Betsy J. Nichols (Steve) of Brandon, MS. Her daughter-n-law Peggy Jones of Dubach, LA., five grandchildren, Amelia Nichols Rowland (Eric), Brittany Jones Lane (Trey), Alex Jones, Suzanne Nichols Webster (Walton), and Sara Jones; six great-grandchildren, Eloise Lane, Ellie Paige Webster, Jackson Webster, Blakelee Rowland, Mars Lane and Rolfe Lane.
In lieu of flowers, memorials for the cemetery grounds may be made to Cane Creek Primitive Baptist Church c/o Pam Screen, 4778 E. Caudle Road, Rives, TN 38253.
Pallbearers will be Walton Webster, Eric Rowland, Trey Lane, Alex Jones, Elwin Tanner, and Robert Webb.
