Kaye was born on July 3, 1944, in Indianola, Mississippi, to the late James and Arwin Corder. She was the devoted wife of Curtis Allen Buchanan, Sr. for over 61 years.
Kaye graduated from Mississippi College for Women with a degree in Elementary Education, where she was a member of the Reveler Social Club. She later earned her master’s degree in Elementary Education from Delta State University.
For 29 years, Kaye was a beloved first-grade teacher at Washington School. Parents eagerly sought placement in her classroom, and her students never forgot her. She lovingly referred to them as “her babies,” and even as adults, they returned to visit, reconnect, and embrace the teacher who meant so much to them. In recognition of her dedication, she received a 25-year service award and lifetime certification from the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools.
Kaye’s faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was central to her life and evident to all who knew her. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Greenville, where she served on numerous committees, taught Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, and attended Community Bible Study, and was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Union. For over 40 years, she served as an outreach leader and was a constant source of encouragement alongside her husband in their Sunday School class.
She was also an active member of the Greenville Junior Women’s Club and Delta Kappa Gamma for many years.
Kaye will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Arwin Corder.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis Allen Buchanan, Sr.; her son, Curtis Allen Buchanan, Jr. (Mary); her daughter, Kelli Buchanan Branton (Will); her brother, Jim Corder III; her sister, Camille Towery (Marion); her grandchildren, William Branton (Elizabeth), Carson Branton (Mia), Mollie Buchanan, and Tripp Buchanan; and her great-granddaughter, Eloise Branton.
