Henry Lee Sproles

Funeral services for Henry Lee Sproles, 91, a lifelong resident of Leland, will be at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland.  He died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at his home in Leland. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland. Henry was the youngest, and last surviving child of Walter Madison Sproles and Susie Cupstid Sproles.  He was a graduate of Leland High School, class of 1939.  He was a U.S. Marine veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater in which he served for 4 years and was an airplane mechanic.  After his discharge he returned to Leland where he worked as a farm equipment mechanic for 12 years in the same building for Heard Tractor Co., which then became Kirk-Pitt Tractor Co., and then Gill Tractor Co.  After that he worked for Delta Implement Co. in Greenville for 24 years, retiring in 1982.  His wife kept him so busy during his “retirement” that he decided he needed to go back to work to get some rest!  He spent the next 10 years as night security at Dillingham then LaZBoy in Leland. He is survied by his wife, Hazel Neese Sproles of Leland; daughter, Debbie Sproles Bethel of Leland; grandson, Randy C. Jones of Laplata, MD; great grandson, Jacob Gavin Jones of Laplata, MD; and 2 great granddaughters, Samantha Lee Jones of Leland and Taylor Jones of Cuero, TX. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. The family would like to thank DRMC Hospice for their care and compassion during Henry’s last days.
