Mabel Catledge Baum

Mabel Catledge Baum, 100, died Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Magnolia Gardens.  Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Park in Albuquerque, NM under the direction of Strong-Sherman Home.  Local Arrangements are under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home. She was born October 5, 1910 to Harvey H. and Julya Stacy Catledge near Ackerman, MS.  In 1927 the family moved to Greenville.  After graduating Greenville High School in 1929, she moved to Memphis, TN where she completed a business training course.  She was employed as a secretary until her marriage to George T. Ziegler of Syracuse, NY in 1943. Following his discharge from the military, they  moved to Syracuse where he returned to his former employment.  A heart attack caused his death at age forty-eight. She was employed as a a private secretary to the Senior Vice President of Carrier Corporation for sixteen years before retiring.  In 1959, she was married to George T. Baum, a Carrier Corporation engineer.  After his retirement, following 35 years service, they moved to Albuquerque, NM.  He passed away there in 1979. Preceding her in death are sisters, Myra Catledge, Ann G. Monie, Melba C. Lenox, and brothers, H. Mancil Catledge and Harvey H. Catledge, Jr.; step-sons, Dr. Neal Patrick Baum and Dr. Carl Baum. She is survived by a special niece, Becki Monie Bolm (Bubba) of Vicksburg; a adopted daughter, Martha Dobbs Fulton (Roy) of Greenville.  Also surviving her are devoted step family, Martha C. Baum (widow of stepson, Dr. Neal Baum) of Albuquerque, NM; 2 grandsons, George Baum of Pearland, TX and Spencer Baum (Julie) of Albuquerque, NM; 4 great grandchildren, Kira Celeste Baum, Rowan Edward Baum, Connor Patrick Baum and Neal Tobias Baum. The family would like to thank special caregivers, Viola King and Joann Boston and also all the staff at Magnolia Gardens . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ladies Golf Association at Greenville Golf and Country Club.
