Martin Anderson Kilpatrick

Funeral services for Martin Anderson Kilpatrick, 67, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 8, 2011 at St. James’ Episcopal Church.  He died peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2011 at his home in Greenville.  Burial will be in Hollandale Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home. He was born on September 30, 1943, in Indianola, MS. His parents were Lloyd and Frances Kilpatrick of Hollandale, MS. Martin grew up in Hollandale and attended the public schools there. He graduated from the University of Mississippi and then attended the Ole Miss Law School. He was selected to be a member of the Mississippi Law Journal staff. He graduated from law school in January 1968. Martin was chosen by U. S. Federal Judge William C. Keady of Greenville, MS  to be his first law clerk. Martin served ably as his law clerk for two years. Martin then became a partner in the Robertshaw and Meredith Law Firm in Greenville until he opened his own Greenville law practice. Martin Kilpatrick was an experienced litigator handling  Admiralty, Civil and Criminal law. He was a member of the Washington County Bar Association and the Mississippi Bar. In the last few years his son Linton Kilpatrick  practiced law with his father until he opened his own law practice in Olive Branch, MS.  His son Brooke Kilpatrick worked for his father as his office manager. Retired Federal Magistrate Judge Eugene  M. Bogen said, “Martin was  the first person I met in law school and I recognized immediately how bright he was. He was an outstanding student and became one of the very best lawyers and litigators in the Delta. He was a great and good friend. I will miss him greatly.” Martin Kilpartrick was a member of Saint James’ Episcopal Church located at 1026  South Washington Avenue. Survivors include his devoted wife of 45 years Jean Robertson Kilpatrick of Greenville, his son Martin Anderson Kilpatrick, Jr., his wife Nelson and grandchildren Alex and Lawson of Rosemary Beach, FL, his son Linton Cook Kilpatrick of Memphis, TN and his son Brooke Robertson Kilpatrick of Greenville. Martin is also survived by his sister Mary Helen Kilpatrick Davis of Indianola and her husband Frank. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 8, 2011 in the St. James’ Room at the church. The Reverend Sylvia Robertshaw Czarnetzky and The Reverend Susan Crawford will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Maurice Douglas, Frank Davis, Bobby Roberts, John Abington, Patrick Davis and Samuel  Sugg. Memorials may be made to Arthritis Foundation located at 731 Avignon Drive, Suite 2, Ridgeland, MS 39157 or St. James’ Episcopal Church located at 1026 South Washington Avenue, Greenville, MS 38701. The family requests no flowers.
