A celebration of the life and resurrection of Mrs. Martha Tiley White, 100, of Indianola was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2011 at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. E. Allen Bailey and Rev. Stephen Sparks officiated. Burial followed in the Indianola City Cemetery. Mrs. White died at Liberty Health and Rehab, Indianola on Thursday, December 1. Services were under the direction of Boone-Card Funeral Home. Mrs. White was born October 3, 1911 to Clara Lucille Bell and Edward Henry Tiley in Greenwood, MS. She graduated from Greenwood High School and began her career in the business world. She married Rufus Latimer Prewitt in 1931. They were long time residents of Indianola. After Mr. Prewitt died, Mrs. White continued her position at the Planters Bank, and in 1972 she married Mr. Hailey B. White. Mrs. White retired from the bank after many years. She was a member of the Indianola Culture Club and the First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, played piano for classes and services, and participated in church circles and the children’s Sunday School department. Her favorite past time was playing bridge until just a few months before her death. Mrs. White was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sara Carter Hitch. She is survived by her two children, Martha P. Hitch of Oxford, MS and Edward Dudley Prewitt (Marcia Kosko) of Mobile, AL; her two granddaughters, J. Ellen Hitch Gambino of Simi Valley, CA and Ellen Louise Prewitt of Mobile, AL; her great-granddaughter, Maria Rebecca Payne and her great-great-granddaughter, Alexis Devynn Jackson of Lomita, CA; eight step grandchildren and fourteen step great-grandchildren. A visitation was held one hour before the service at First United Methodist Church, Indianola. Memorials may be made to the Music Fund at the First United Methodist Church, Indianola or to a charity of choice.
