Katie Lou Cohea

Funeral services for Katie Lou Cohea, 97, of Cleveland, MS and formerly of Leland will be 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 11 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland with Reverend Jon Doler presiding.  She died Saturday, September 8 at Cleveland Personal Care Assisted Living.  Burial will follow in the Leland-Stoneville Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
 
Mrs. Cohea was born January 25, 1915 in Calhoun County, MS, the daughter of the late Adley and Lula Powell Cohea.  She graduated from Cold Creek High School.  She married John Henry Cohea in April 1934, and they moved to Leland in 1937.  Mrs. Cohea was first employed with Sterling Department Store in Leland until 1966 and later with Azlin Drug Store for 21 years retiring in 1987.  She was a member of First Baptist Church, Leland and Woodmen of the World where she received an award for 25 years of service.
 
Mrs. Cohea was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Lorene Jones of Cleveland and Lima Higginbottham of Coffeeville, and 2 brothers, James Talford Cohea of Flora and Adley L. Cohea, Jr. of West Point.  Survivors include a sister, Willie Mae Milam of Winona; 2 very special caregivers, Owen Houston of Leland and her niece, Elizabeth Cutts of Cleveland; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
 
Visitation will be 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 11 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or First Baptist Church, Leland.
