Funeral services for Jayne Williams Johnson were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, Indianola. She died Saturday, March 3, 2012 at her home in Indianola. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Indianola. Jayne was born July 14, 1923 in Sunflower, MS the daughter of Edward Weir Williams and Ellie Srong Williams. The family moved to Indianola in 1940. She graudated from Sunflower Agricultural High School in Moorhead and Mississippi State College for Women. She then worked in Sunflower County as Deputy Sheriff and Tax Collector, Deputy Chancery Clerk and County Auditor, and in Washington for the FBI in fingerprint identification. Marion Glenn Johnson and Mary Jayne Williams were married June 17, 1956 in Indianola Presbyterian Church. They lived in Moorhead and became parents of a daughter, Marian Strong Johnson. Indianola became home in 1964 after Marion began a twenty-five year tenure with Planters Bank. Jayne was past President of Civic League and Ex Regent of David Holmes Chapter, NSDAR. She was a long-time active member of Indianola Presbyterian Church. She and her husband compiled a one hundered year Church history in 1987. She served on the Steering Committee when Covenant Presbytery Women in the Church was organized, later serving the organization as President and in other offices. Jayne’s husband, Marion Johnson, preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Marian Gurlen and son-in-law, Randall Gurlen, of Cleveland. The family received friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, March 5, 2012 at Boone Funeral Home, Indianola.
