Chad was born August 20, 1914 in Walnut Grove, MS. He was the son of J.T. and Mary Chadwick Oxner. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly sixty years, Mrs. Mayme Russell (Hicks) Oxner, their daughter Mayme Chadwick Oxner Womack, and a grandson Hunter Chadwick Womack.  He is survived by his grandsons Perry Lee Simpson, Jr (Kellie) of Leland, MS, Christopher Heath Simpson (Liz) of Cleveland, MS, Lauren Simpson Vaughn (Brian) of Robertsdale, AL, and Madelyn Claire Crawford (John) of Greenville, MS,  great-grandchildren, Hunter Vaughn, Bella Simpson, Walker Simpson, Layla Simpson, and Lucas Simpson, and one great grandchild on the way, along with many nieces and nephews.

Chad enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1942, where he proudly served our country in World War II.  During his time in the service, Chad achieved the rank of Master Sgt while serving as Flight Chief of the 559th Bombing Squad.  Most of his time overseas was spent in England and Northern France, including D-Day in Normandy.

On May 14, 1943, Chad married his high school sweetheart, Mayme Hicks.  They had been married for 59 years at the time of her passing.

Upon completion of his military service, Chad returned home to Walnut Grove, where he then opened a garage.  This led to his future in the automotive industry and car business.  In the mid 1950’s, Chad had the opportunity to open a Chrysler dealership, and chose to make the move to Greenville, MS.  He owned and operated Chad Oxner Motors for over 30 years, retiring in 1986.  During this time, he was the recipient of countless awards for sales and performance, including on the national level.

Chad had many passions in life.  Following his retirement, Chad loaded up in his motor home and hit the road, driving to every state in the lower 48.  He also made a trip to Hawaii for number 49, only never making it to Alaska.  Chad’s golf game also improved a lot in these years, as he and his buddies played at least 3 days a week.  His greatest passion was playing bridge.  Chad was the leader of the duplicate bridge club up into his late 90’s, and he achieved the rank of Life Master.

Friends and family will miss his wit, storytelling, and love of life. He will be remembered as a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, friend, and community leader to several generations of people.

The family would like to thank Chad’s long time care team of Ira Johnson, Debra Hall, Rosie and Debra Wright.
