Thomas Cunningham Ewing, 91, of Benoit, MS, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020, at home. Private graveside services will be held for the immediate family. Boone Funeral Home, Greenville is in charge of arrangements.
He was born in Scott, Mississippi, to Early Cunningham and Emma Bell Ewing. He attended Mississippi State University and graduated from UCLA. After a time in the US Air Force, he returned to Benoit and began a 35 year career with Bostick Brothers. He earned his Professional Engineering License, and moved to Baton Rouge to work for G and E Environmental Company until he retired and moved back to Benoit.
Tommy helped organize the Benoit Lion’s Club and the Benoit Volunteer Fire Department. He was active in the Benoit Union Church, Boy Scout Troop 1 and various professional organizations.
He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Janie Thornton Ewing; son Thomas C. Ewing, Jr. (Dawn) of Brandon; daughter Barbara Madison (Mike) of Petal; grandchildren Rebecca Ewing of Austin, TX; Thomas Ewing (Maggie) of Kampala, Uganda; Caty Madison of Petal; and great-grandsons Ellis and George Ewing.
Memorial donations may be made to the Benoit Union Church or a charity of choice.
