Memorial graveside services Kirk Hays Lane will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Holy Innocents Cemetery in Lake Village, AR. She died December 22, 2022 at her home in Lake Village, Arkansas. Boone Funeral Home, Greenville is in charge of arrangements.
Kirk is survived by William Patrick (Pat) Lane, Jr., her husband of 61 years and her sister Bright Hays of Greenville, MS. She is also survived by her three children: Ann Lane (Mike) Neal, William (Terri) Lane, and Mary Helen (Alex) Willingham, 5 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Kirk Hays was born to Woodson and Beryl Hays in Mobile, Alabama. The family later moved to Eudora, Arkansas where Mr. Hays established Big Bend Ranch.
She was a 1957 graduate of Eudora High School and went on to study music at Northeast Louisiana University. It was there that she met Pat who climbed in her practice room window to prove that he was indeed serious about courting her. After marrying in 1961, they moved from Delhi, Louisiana to Eudora, Arkansas where they became a part of the family business, Big Bend Ranch.
She was adored by her children and grandchildren who were the recipients of her sage advice and lessons on how to do everything properly – from putting together a table setting to growing the most impressive herb garden to cooking every soup known to man or woman. Kirk was champion of all knowledge games, especially Jeopardy. She was the holder of the family stories, genealogy, and history. A reader and a writer, she believed in the value of literacy. She was the librarian in Eudora and also worked at First Presbyterian preschool as a teacher.
Kirk served the Greenville / Lake Village communities as a Junior Auxiliary member, a Garden Club member, and a food pantry volunteer. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenville where she served in many capacities such as deacon, member of the outreach committee, moderator of Presbyterian Women, Sunday school teacher, and a member of the church choir.
Kirk loved to travel and write about it. She traveled with dear friends and family, keeping journals of her travels.
Her greatest legacy will be her devotion to her family. If her children or grandchildren were involved, she was there – sitting in the rain at football games, attending theatre performances, dance recitals, swim meets, baseball games, band concerts, church services and piano recitals. She taught valuable lessons: Go to church. Know good music. Stand by the ones that you love.
Many were the recipients of Kirk’s hospitality. Her house was full on weekends and holidays. No one ever left her home hungry, thirsty, or bored. She was the ultimate hostess.
The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to Kirk’s caregivers: Sue Tanksley, Faye Reed, Letesha Jones, Starlett Watts, Daffy Rauls, and Mary Lisa Lane. They provided for her the kindest and most loving care.
