Imogene Johnson Borganelli

The family of Imogene Johnson Borganelli is sad to announce the passing of their mother. She died at the age of 93 on April 15, 2023. Imogene passed away peacefully and with much dignity after a long illness. The funeral will be a small ceremony with family and close friends at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home Greenville. There will be a visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. before the services.

Imogene is survived by her husband of 70 years, Santo J. Borganelli, and their five children, Mark and his wife Wanda, Greg and his wife Suzanne, Sanci and her husband Tom, Bart, and Neal. Imogene was blessed with six grandchildren, of whom she was very proud. She has two surviving siblings, Jo Ann Crowder of Los Angeles, CA, and Billy Nick Johnson of Sebastopol, MS.

She graduated from Decatur High School and went to East Central Community College, where she was honored as the Alumna of the Year in 2002 and inducted into the athletic hall of Fame in 2003. She then graduated from Ole Miss in 1949. She was enticed to teach at Shaw High School by being given the head basketball coaching job, where she was very successful in beating Margaret Wade for the State Championship in 1951. Imogene met the love of her life in that little town of Shaw, MS. She was an excellent school teacher, basketball coach, wife, and mother.

Imogene also served on the Mississippi Community for the Humanities from 1978-1983. She was in many organized clubs and committees over the years but was very proud of being President of AAUW (American Association of University Women).

Imogene will be missed by all her family, friends, and the many lives she touched over the years.
