Mollie Dent Stock

Funeral services for Mollie Cary Dent Stock, 53, of Greenville will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Convenant Presbyterian Church (PCA), Greenville.  She went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 4, 2013 after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Burial will be at 4:00 p.m. in Glenwood Cemetery, Yazoo City, MS under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.  She was born on May 5, 1959 to Amanda Cary Dent and John Hayes Dent.  Mollie was the oldest of three children, along with two brothers, John Hayes Dent, Jr. and Richard Hughes Dent.   Mollie graduated from Yazoo City High School in 1977 and followed in her mother’s footsteps by attending and graduating from Mississippi State University for Women in 1980. She married in 1979 and gave birth to three wonderful children, William Stokes Jones, John Montfort Jones and Margaret Amanda Jones.   Mollie grew up in Yazoo City but during her married life she lived in several towns in the south and central Delta. During her latter years she made her home in Greenville, Mississippi, a place she loved and where she had many friends and admirers.   Mollie loved flowers and decorating. She was a member of The Greenville Garden Club, during which time she served as president and represented the club at Garden Club of America meetings throughout the country. She was a popular floral artist throughout the Delta and around the state.   As a high school student, Mollie served twice in the nation’s capital as Page for then Congressman, G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery. Among the honors Mollie received during her lifetime were Yazoo County Miss Hospitality, Vice-President of Delta Council and was selected as Good Middling Lady by the Delta Council.    One of her most cherished relationships was her membership at Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Greenville.  Her Covenant church family was very important to her and she was always grateful that her children had the opportunity to grow up among those church family friends.   Mollie never waivered in her faith in Christ as her Savior and Lord of her life. It was that faith that carried her through difficult times and kept her focused on her belief that God is good and all that He does is good.   Mollie will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.   She was preceded in death by her father, John Hayes Dent, Sr. as well as her children, William Stokes Jones and Margaret Amanda Jones.   She is survived by her son, John Montfort Jones; her mother, Amanda Cary Dent Bailey and her father of 46 years, Robert Bailey; her brother, John Hayes Dent, Jr. and sister-in-love, Carolyn Dent, and brother, Richard Hughes Dent. Also she is survived by six nieces and nephews.   It is Mollie’s expressed desire that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts would be sent to the Maggie and Stokes Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund at Reformed Theological Seminary, 5422 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, MS  39209.
