Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Boone Funeral Home.
Betty was a native of Greenville and graduated from Greenville High School in 1949 and from Mississippi Delta Junior College in 1972 with a nursing degree. She was married to William L. “Billy” Griffin for 70 years. Betty was a loving wife and mother, and a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, where she was baptized as an infant. She served the church as a member of the Kindergarten Committee and as a teacher of four-year-olds in the weekday kindergarten program. Betty was active in United Methodist Women as a circle leader, president, teacher, vice president/program leader, and treasurer; she was a founding member of the Christian Homemakers Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Griffin, and by her sons, Bill Griffin and Dr. Richard Griffin. Both Betty and Billy loved the Lord and were blessed with a genuine concern for the well-being of others. Betty was a caregiver for many of her aunts, her mother, her husband, and her close friend, Maude.
She is survived by sons Jim Griffin, of Batesville, MS, Walter Griffin, of The Villages, FL, and Bart Outzen of Lake Village, AR; sisters Lelia Atkins, of Somerset, KY, and Lois Mullikin of Vancleave, MS; seven grandchildren, Amber Oakes (Matt), Matthew Griffin, Jamie Griffin (Benjamin), Thomas Griffin (Sara), Jessica Hawkins (Eric), Will Griffin (Isabella), and Jimmy Griffin (Emma); and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Magnolia Gardens and Kiara Dudley (Betty’s sitter) for their patience and support, and to Grace Hospice for their attention to Betty’s medical, social, and spiritual needs.
