Funeral services for Jimmie Joyce Stevenson Smith, age 80, of Glen Allan will be at noon on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home in Greenville. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery.
She was born on August 2, 1943, in Nanih Waiya, Mississippi. She passed to her Heavenly home on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville surrounded by her children.
Jimmie was the oldest child of James and Thelma Stevenson. She lived her early years in Winston County before moving to Glen Allan in 1950. She attended Glen Allan Public Schools and graduated in 1962. She was a cheerleader, a Bearette dancer, a member of F.H.A., and on the yearbook staff.
Jimmie married the love of her life, Raymond O. “Smitty” Smith, Sr. on August 4, 1963. They remained sweethearts and best friends and were happily married for 51 years until Smitty’s death in 2014.
After her youngest child started school, Jimmie began working during the summers with Dr. Aubrey Harris and the Mississippi State University Entomology program in research cotton plots. She was employed with Western Line School District Food Services for 34 years before retiring at age 77. She took interest in each student individually and always gave a smile and kind words along with their meals.
Jimmie accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Lake Washington First Baptist Church. She cared for and served countless individuals from infants to the elderly as a nursery Director, a Sunday school teacher, a youth group parent, a Vacation Bible School leader, a bereavement committee chairperson, and a prayer warrior.
Jimmie enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a loving mother, NANA, sister, cousin, and friend. She had a gentle soul with a heart of gold and found great joy in helping and taking care of others. Although she was small in stature, she was a giant in her devotion to her Lord and Savior, her family, and her friends.
Jimmie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Thelma Stevenson, her husband of 51 years Raymond O. “Smitty “Smith, Sr., and her sister Margaret Stevenson Norris.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Smith Blanton (Steve); her son Raymond O. “Ray” Smith, Jr. (Hollie); 4 grandchildren, Tyler Blanton, Sarah Blanton, Austin Smith, and Nathan Smith; her baby sister, Carol Stevenson Atchley, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers will be Michael Atchley, Danny Lee “Bubba” Cooper, Mike Crist, Christopher McQuary, Kevin Norris, Bubba Glidewell, Steve Thomasson, Jeffrey Pierce, and Rodney Pierce.
