James Craig Morgan, 69, of Leland passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024, in Greenville, MS. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Leland Methodist Church. Boone Funeral Home, Leland is in charge of arrangements.
Craig was born on October 18, 1954, in Greenville, MS to Rance and Thelma Morgan. he graduated from Leland Academy in Leland, MS, in May of 1972. Craig began working on his grandfather’s farm at the age of 15 where he learned his strong work ethic and managerial skills.
Over the years he farmed with his grandfather, his brother, Rance Morgan III, and the McCaskill brothers of Leland. After leaving row crop farming in 1986, he managed catfish farms until his retirement in March of 2024.
His love for his dogs knew no bounds. Craig’s big heart and love for animals were shared by his daughter, Micah. They have cared for and loved many animals in his life and frequently shared this love with shelter animals.
Being an avid hunter all his life, he shared this passion with his son, Brent. They also shared the love of being outdoors doing any activity including sports and four-wheeler riding.
Many decades ago, Craig was nicknamed “Rambo” by his friends because of his physical toughness, tireless energy, and exceptional shooting ability. He was so loved by his family and friends that have supported him and his family during the last months of his life. 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rance and Thelma Morgan; brother, Rance Morgan III, and stepdaughter, Anna Russell. Craig is survived by his wife, Teresa Morgan; his son, Brent Morgan; daughter, Micah Morgan; stepdaughter, Amber (Josh) Hunter; step-grandchildren, Myles Strevel, Eli Hunter, and Barrett Hunter; sisters, Patricia Morgan (Lin) Stanton and Dawn Morgan (Darren) Bowling; his nieces and nephews, and the mother of his children, Robbin Reed (Shuler) Griffin.
