Rebekah (Becky) was born in the community of Avalon, MS. She attended Valley Consolidated School and graduated from the 12th grade. She was married to her high school sweetheart, James Roy Montgomery for 70 years.

Mrs. Montgomery was a homemaker and worked at McRae’s/Belk for several years in customer service. She and James were members and active at Emmanuel Baptist Church. They later became members at Calvary Baptist Church. She and James were great Christian role models for their family and always showed God’s love.

Sunday dinners were always special. Their meals were large and they shared with others. There was always a few extra people to eat, usually guests of their children. They loved serving meals to the shut-ins and the sick. So many friends and family were invited to share meals at holiday times. God’s love in action. She thrived at the holidays making all her signature dishes; we all brought food but hers was the best. She loved everyone and welcomed anyone whole heartily into her home as if they were family.

Mrs. Montgomery is preceded in death by her husband James in 2021; her parents Gayden Sullivan and Alma Sillivan; her brothers, Gordon, Calvin and Junior; and sisters, Genevieve, Genella and Margie.

She is survived by one son, James R. (Jimmy) Montgomery, Jr. (Dale) of Greenville, MS; two daughters, Nelda Howerton of Pearl, MS and Patsy Poole (Britt) of Greenville, MS; grandchildren, Clint Poole, Jennifer Montgomery Hanson (Matt), Lindsay Holden (Stephen) and Angie Hazzard (Shelby); great-grandchildren, Jules, Annie and Foster Hanson, Easton and Isla Montgomery, Hadley and Haven Holden, Logan, Micah, Mary Lauren and Chole Hazzard.
