Victor John Cefalu

Victor John Cefalu, 94, of Leland, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024. A private funeral service will be held for family.

Victor was born on August 28, 1930, in Leland, MS, to Andrew and Marie Corso Cefalu. A graduate of Leland High School, he went on to work in his family’s business before starting a career in insurance with Mutual of Omaha. On October 2, 1954, he married the love of his life, Carlene Creilly Cefalu, and together they built a life in Leland. The couple later opened and managed Cefalu’s Grocery, which became a cherished part of the community.

Victor had a lifelong passion for tennis, not only as a player but also as a coach and mentor. He believed in sharing his love for the sport with others and often said, “Anybody, anytime, anywhere.” On the court, his philosophy was clear: “Love and family stops at the gate, before you step on the court.”

In addition to tennis, Victor was known for his love of dancing, especially with Carlene. Together, they lit up every dance floor they stepped onto, their energy and connection captivating all who watched.

Victor is survived by his children: Cade (Carole) Cefalu of Rowlett, TX; Casheu (Billy) Frey of Yazoo City, MS; Corese (Kendall) Davis of Oxford, MS; and Chana (David) McMillen of Chatham, MA. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and countless fond memories for his loved ones to cherish.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carlene; his parents, Andrew and Marie Cefalu; his seven siblings; and his daughter, Rose Cefalu.

Victor’s warmth, humor, and passion for life will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
