Funeral services for James Gregory “Greg” Hudgins, 51, of Greenville will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23 at First Baptist Church, Greenville. He died at his home Thursday, November 20. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Greg was born on May 31, 1963 in Greenville to Jimmy and Mary Hudgins. Paternal grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. Howell H. Hudgins and maternal grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Spivey. A graduate of Washington School, Greg attended Mississippi Delta Community College on a football scholarship. He and his parents established H & H Pawn Shop in 1994. He married Jeri Marchbanks in 1994 and was blessed with three wonderful children. He retired as President of H & H Freight Lines, Inc. in 2013.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a past board member of Huntington Point, a member of Pheba Hunting Club and Lake Trader Horn Fishing Association. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville where he served on the Youth Committee for three years. He was also a dedicated supporter of Camp Looking Glass, Inc., and was known around the community for his “Apple Pie” and his annual crawfish cookouts. Yet, his favorite place to go with his family was and will always be “The Ladder House”.
Greg was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
Survivors include his wife, Jeri Marchbanks Hudgins of Greenville; 3 children, Jimmy Irby Jackson II, Jessica Leanne Hudgins, and James Gregory Hudgins II, all of Greenville; his mother, Mary Hudgins of Lake Village, AR; his sister, Dr. Cheryl Hudgins Slaughter-Smith, a nephew, Justin Slaughter and niece, Merideth Smith, all of Russellville, AR; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Marchbanks of Greenville; and 2 lifetime friends, James Holloway and John Swafford.
A visitation will be held immediately following the funeral services Sunday in the chapel of First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Camp Looking Glass, P.O. Box 392, Greenville, MS 38701.
