Morris L. Scrivner

Funeral services for Morris L. Scrivner, 84, of Greenville, will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, March 2nd at Linn Methodist Church with Rev. Marcelle Crow of Sterlington, Louisiana officiating. He died Friday, February 27, 2015, at Delta Regional Medical Center. Interment will follow in the Linn Methodist Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

Morris Scrivner was born on August 11, 1930 on Zumbro Plantation in Bolivar County. In 1932 his family moved by wagons and train to the Linn community. He graduated from Linn High School and attended Sunflower Junior College before enlisting in the US Navy. He served as an Aviation Electronic Technician Airman from 1949 to 1954. He worked at US Axminster in Greenville and Burlington Industries in Monticello, AR before retiring from US Axminster as a department head in Greenville. He was a past member of the Lions Club of Greenville. As a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville, he also attended Linn Methodist Church. Morris shared his lifelong passion for golf with his son Wick and grandson Steve. Many happy hours were spent chasing that little white ball. He was a gifted gardener and his family benefited from the bounty of his hands and at his table. His life reflects that in kindness and love the true power of a man is shown.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Maifred Holloway Scrivner; his sisters, Effie Baker, Opal Mixon, and Chris Banks; his brothers, Rual Scrivner, Hal “Skeet” Scrivner, Buford Scrivner, and Alfred L Scrivner; and his great granddaughter Ellie Gail Pickering.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vonda Ming Scrivner; two daughters, Sandra Mascagni and her husband Jerry Elmo Mascagni of Greenville, and Gail Pickering and her husband Steve Pickering Sr. of Monroe, LA; one son, Wick Scrivner of Jonesboro, LA.; sisters, Helen “Nell” Cox and Faye Lehmon; four grandsons: Steve Pickering Jr (Jeanine), Scott Mascagni(Courtney), Brett Pickering (Becky) and Shawn Mascagni; and two great granddaughters. His nieces and nephews were loved and adored. He loved kidding with them and telling them a joke. He would tell you with pride all the memorable times he had with his family in life, and there are many he was able to share.
