Memorial services for Clarence “Monty” Mitchell Montgomery, 88, of Greenville will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday at First United Methodist Church. He died Tuesday, September 13 at his home. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone-Smith Funeral Home.
Monty was born on February 8, 1928 in Fort Myers, FL to Clarence Marion Montgomery and Effie Storter Montgomery. He received his education in Fort Myers and after graduation joined the U.S. Air Force serving during World War II. He was stationed at Greenville Air Force Base and was honorably discharged in September 1953. After his discharge he remained in Greenville where he met and married Jacquelyn Hammett and was engaged in farming.
Monty enjoyed going to auctions, farming and camping, being a member of the Good Sam Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a son, Walter H. Montgomery. He is survived by a son, Clarence “Mitch” Montgomery (Debbie) of Greenville; 2 daughters, Patricia Gordon of Tupelo and Mary Elizabeth Stewart of Greenville; and by 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
