Funeral services for John Patrick McGee, Sr., age 62, of Greenville will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 11 at St. James’ Episcopal Church, Greenville. He died Friday, October 7 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. A visitation will be held one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
Mr. McGee attended Mississippi State University, where he was president of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Following graduation, he worked with Travelers Insurance, Bill Andrews Insurance, as Administrator of Autumn Leaves Nursing Home, and most recently with Willmer Painting Contractors, Inc. He was a long time member of St. James Episcopal Church and served as president of the Greenville Kiwanis Club. Mr. McGee enjoyed Mississippi State football, especially when they were winning, golf, and fixing things around the house. Most of all he loved being with family and friends. He was a good friend and a loving son, brother, father, and husband. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Thomas McGee and stepfather, James Cearley. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Marla McKinney McGee; 2 sons, John Patrick McGee, Jr. of Oxford and Thomas Edward McGee of Hernando; his mother, Mary Kern McGee Cearley of Ridgeland; a sister, Janet McGee Stegall (Keith) of Sante Fe, TN; a brother, Mike McGee (Sallie) of Madison; in-laws, Judy McKinney Batts and Dwight of Macclesfield, NC; nieces, May Vaughn McCarty, Lisa Girdharry, Dawn Hill, and Kathy Thames; and nephews, Michael McGee, Jr., Richard McGee, and David Batts.
