Graveside services for Adilaid Page Maddox of Avon will be Sunday, November 1, 2020, at the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home.
Mrs. Maddox was born in Pearl Valley, Mississippi, on November 9, 1926, to Mr. and Mrs. Embra Polk Page. After graduating from Georgetown High School and Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, she taught first and second grade at Georgetown and Union Schools. She returned to school at Mississippi Southern College (now the University of Southern Mississippi) receiving a Bachelor of Science in home economics. She then accepted a job at Riverside High School in Avon, Mississippi. Through longtime superintendent Charlie Morris she met her husband Nixon who preceded her in death after more than sixty years of marriage.
She left teaching to become the food service director for the Western Line Schools but was always a teacher at heart. She loved teaching and her students. Mrs. Maddox was still in touch with one of her first grade students who remained one of her favorites (even though she said she had no favorites). She said she always wanted a little boy like this student, and Nixon Jr. fit the bill. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for over fifty years and was a longtime member of the Longwood Community Culture Club, represented by ladies who were the heart of the community.
A wonderful seamstress, she made exquisite dance costumes and designed and made a wedding gown for her daughter. From her husband’s neckties, she made a well-loved purse for her granddaughter, Ginger. Her grandson, Trae, declared at age three that his grandmother was “a really good cooker.” Her grandson, Lee, looked forward to her call that there were pancakes and waffles waiting for him. She was a great cook who enjoyed developing recipes and sharing food with her friends.
Mrs. Maddox is survived by her son, Nixon B. Maddox Jr. (Karon) and her daughter, Pam Maddox Roberts, and grandchildren Trae Roberts, Lee Maddox and Ginger Maddox Lowery and the children of Lee and Ginger. She is also survived by her sisters Beatrice Page Woodard and Virginia Dare Page Boardman, and sixteen nieces and nephews.
