Allan W. Powell was born to the late Nora Branning on December 2, 1955 in Shelby, MS. He was a graduate of Deer Creek School. Allan dedicated 22 years to the City of Greenville Fire Department before retiring. After retiring from the fire department, Allan spent many years in the petroleum industry at Scott Petroleum. He also spent countless hours helping his son Jarrett with his lawn business, not because he liked mowing yards, but to spend time with Jarrett.

Allan, known as “Papaw” to his grandchildren, loved his family and friends tremendously and treasured his time spent with all of them. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting with his son and grandson. On a sunny day, Allan could be found with his closest buddies riding his Harley Davidson.

Allan Powell was preceded in death by his mother, his father figure and mentor whom he adored James “Coach” Branning, and a brother, Randy Branning. He is survived by his children Jarrett Allan Powell (Landry) and Amelia “Amy” Powell Bridges; his grandchildren Jarrett Peyton Powell, Molly Harper Powell, Izabella Ward Bridges, and Kaleigh Reed Bridges; his siblings Renea Watford (Rob), Glen “Bubba” Powell, and Donna Hinton (Stuart); and his nieces Gracie Watford and Carla Hairston, and a nephew Michael Powell. He also leaves behind his former wife and mother of his children, Vivian Couey, as well as his long-time, loving companion Kim Wigley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to St. Jude Children’s Research or a favorite charity.
