Anita Jeanne Stadelbacher

Anita Jeanne Stadelbacher, beloved Wife, Mother, and Grandmother “Memaw”, 95, of Greenville, MS, formerly of Cobden, IL died at 3 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2024, at her home in Greenville, MS. Funeral Mass will be at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Greenville. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024, at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cobden, IL.

She was born September 10, 1929, in Cobden, to the late Louis and Flora “Flo” Baggott. She graduated from Cobden Community High School in 1947 as Valedictorian of her class.

Jeanne married the love of her life, Dr. Earl A. Stadelbacher on August 3, 1950. They went on to have seven children who were the joy of her life.

While being a devoted wife and mom, she earned a Bachelor of Business Degree with Honors at the University of Illinois Urbana with her name on a bronze tablet which is still on display today, and a Master of Science in Guidance and Special Education at the University of Southern Illinois in Carbondale. She continued her education with additional graduate studies at Delta State University in Cleveland, MS. She dedicated herself to teaching for 32 years.  She taught for 7 years in Illinois and 25 years at St. Joseph High School in Greenville, MS. Her commitment to education went beyond the normal teaching hours.  She was also a respected teacher in adult night school education with 4 years in Illinois and 15 years at the MS Delta Extension.  Mrs. Stadelbacher cherished her relationships with her co-workers and students.  She considered them family.

Jeanne was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greenville, MS. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading books, and most of all spending time with her family. She was the heart of her family, and they will miss her dearly. Her family will miss her daily calls to check on each one of them to hear about how they are doing and to let them know that she loves them.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Earl A. Stadelbacher; one son, Richard Stadelbacher; and two daughters, Terry Lynn Stadelbacher and Carol Sue Stadelbacher.

She is survived by two sons, Ray Stadelbacher of Columbus, MS, Ronald Stadelbacher of Winter Haven, FL.; two daughters, Mary Ann (Odis) Hill and Lisa Cain, both of Greenville, MS; eight grandchildren, Regina (Jason) Minga, Laura (Tim) Marble, Summer (Richard) Cudd, Eric Stadelbacher, Matthew (Tessie Wilkerson) Cain, Jonathan (Heather) Cain, Brittany (Thomas Bonner) Cain and Paul (Lexie) Stadelbacher; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; one sister Donna Goocher; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
