Anne Wood Carver

Funeral services for Anne Wood Carver, 91, of Greenville and formerly of Leland will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Leland. She died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Delta Health-The Medical Center in Greenville, Mississippi. Burial will be in the Leland-Stoneville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.

She was born in Louisville, MS, on January 5, 1931. The family moved to Blytheville, AR, in 1936 where they resided for five years before moving to Mobile, Alabama during World War II. After the war, her family returned to the Mississippi Delta where she lived for the rest of her life.

She attended Leland High School where she met her high school sweetheart, Jimmy Carver. After high school she attended Mississippi State College for Women (MSCW). She and Jimmy were married in 1952 at French Camp, Mississippi by Rev. Sam Patterson.

They made their home outside of Leland where they farmed at Burdette. During the late sixties, they started Carver Egg Farm where they both worked until they retired in 2003. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leland, the Leland Garden Club and the Leland Junior Auxiliary. Anne was an explementary Christian servant that was an inspiration to everyone who knew her.

Anne’s last three years were spent in the Washington Care Center in Greenville where she loved participating in resident activities, sitting on the front porch, birdwatching and enjoying the many kindnesses she received while there.

She is preceded in death by Jimmy, her husband of 62 years, her parents Cornelia and W. D. Wood, and her brother James David Wood. She is survived by her four children: Jim Carver (Pat) of Greenville, Joe Carver of Leland, Lia Carver Guthrie (Dave) of Redwood Valley, CA, and Leesa Carver McMillin (David) of Monroe, LA. She had five grandsons: Patrick Carver of Clarksville, TN, Josh Carver (Moriah) of Jackson, MS, Scott Guthrie of Sacramento, CA, Brady McMillin (Sylvia) of New Orleans, LA, and Cody McMillin of Breckenridge, CO; one granddaughter, Katie Guthrie of San Jose del Cabo, Mexico; two great granddaughters Crosby and Reese Carver of Jackson, MS; her sister Margaret Morison of Monroe, LA; her cousin Patsy Jeanne Little of Fairhope, AL, (who was like a sister) and several nieces, nephews and cousins with whom she shared a special family bond.

There will be a visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Leland, P.O. Box 286, Leland, MS 38756.
