Graveside services for Barbara Evans Bruton, 85, of Madison, MS, and formerly of Hollandale, MS will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the Hollandale Cemetery. She went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 5, 2024, at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, MS. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
She was born on May 24, 1938, in Tupelo, MS to the late Earl Mitts Evans and Inez Moore Evans. Barbara attended Tupelo schools, where she was a majorette and played the French Horn. She then graduated from Mississippi College in 1960.
In 1962, Mrs. Bruton moved with her family to Hollandale, Mississippi where she resided for the next fifty-one years. She was a faithful member of Hollandale Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for a number of years.
After her husband Thomas Edwin Bruton passed away, Barbara moved to St. Catherine’s Village.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her mother, and her father. Mrs. Bruton is survived by her loving daughters Kim Cadenhead (Robert) of Starkville, Sissy Stacy (Larry) of Jackson, and Barbara Fontenot (Barry) of Hollandale. Also, Barbara was known as Mamaw to her grandchildren; Mary Claire Glasco, Win Cadenhead (Melissa), Emily Stacy Holmes (Chuck), Ann Louise McNamara (Miller), Cole Stacy (Ellie), Courtney Zepponi (Chad), Mallory Fontenot, and Molly Fontenot. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren: Mary Tate and Maggie Glasco, William and James Cadenhead, Mae, Seavey, Miller and Coleman McNamara, Eliza Zepponi, Monroe and Miles Holmes. Barbara is also survived by her sister Betty Earl Tsakonas, and her niece Elizabeth Collins.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Catherine’s Village of Siena 1 and to her caregivers from Covenant Care. They were special ladies who loved on our mother and for that we will be forever grateful. Also, to Betty and Judy of Village Hair Care, who Mom always looked forward to seeing each week. We would also like to thank Compassus Hospice for their loving care in Mom’s final weeks.
