Funeral services for Benny Loree McClendon Ray, 83, of Greenville will be at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, December 1 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Thursday, November 29 at Delta Regional Medical Center. Burial will be in Lakeview Gardens under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Mrs. Ray was born and raised in Greenville receiving her education in the Greenville Public Schools. She was a charter member of Harmony Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for over 30 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Ray was known for making candy during the Christmas holidays. She especially loved making cakes and pies. Another favorite was decorating for any holiday, especially Christmas. She loved her family and friends and was a kind and loving person.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Shelton Ray; her parents, Bennie and Henry McClendon; sister, Beulah Wylie; infant brother, Billy Travis McClendon; brother, Dale McClendon; son, James Walter Ray, Sr., step-grandson, Landen Branch and sister-in-law, Agnes McClendon.
She is survived by daughter, Charlotte Ann Ray; son, Don Travis Ray; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and three step grandchildren.
There will be a visitation from 3:00-4:00 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
