Betty Ann Hancock

Funeral services for Betty Ann Hancock, affectionately known as Namie, 94, of Wesson, MS, and formerly of Moorhead, MS will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Moorhead Baptist Church. She died on December 11, 2023, at her home in Wesson. Burial will be in Moorhead Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Indianola.

She was born and raised a “Delta Girl” and lived the majority of her life in Moorhead, MS. She worked in the business office at Mississippi Delta Junior College until her retirement. Betty was a member of Moorhead Baptist Church and Moorhead Garden Club. She was a nurturing woman who helped raise her siblings, her three girls, two granddaughters, and later her great-grandson.

Betty was a wonderful cook and was best remembered for her cinnamon rolls and fried chicken. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening and was always prepared with a safety pin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. “Bill” Hancock, daughters, Charlotte Ann Whitehead and Paula Jean Hancock, and grandson, Adam Thomas Weaver.

She is survived by her daughter, Nelda (Arnold) Weaver; granddaughters, Anna Katherine (Philip) Poole and Sara Grace (Adam) Alexander; great-grandson, Calvin Philip (Dru) Poole IV; sister, Addie Rutherford and brother, Robert Gilliland.

There will be a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church on Thursday. Bro. Robert Gilliland will officiate. The family requests memorials be made to the Moorhead Baptist Church.
