Betty Jane Foster Evans

Memorial services for Betty Jane Foster Evans, 82, of Leland will be at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Greenville.  She died Sunday, December 8, 2013 at University of Mississippi Medical Center following a brief illness.  Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.

Mrs. Evans was born in Vicksburg, MS on July 7, 1931 to the late Homer Howard and Sara Mason Foster.  She was the youngest of five children.  In 1956 she married Harry Leo Evans of Vicksburg and they reared their children in Greenville and Leland. The Evanses spent a brief 18 years in Fort Worth, TX before returning to Leland.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Colonial Garden Club and the Leland Garden Club.  She was an enthusiastic member of the Republician Party.  The highlight of her time spent with the party was attending the Presidential Inauguaration of George Walker Bush and Vice-President Richard Bruce Cheney.

Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, an infant daughter, Angela Marie and her son-in-law, William Beebe Jones of Isola.  She is survived by her three children, Sara Evans Jones of Isola and Leland, Harry “Sonny” Leo Evans and wife Julie of San Antonio, TX and Elizabeth “Lisa” Evans Backman of Dallas, TX; and nine devoted grandchildren, Dr. Jane Beebe Jones of Jackson, Elizabeth Jones Tullos of Hattiesburg, Sara Evans Jones of Baton Rouge, LA, Benjamin Lafayette Jones and William Vorhies Jones both of Isola and Leland, Barrett Jacqueline Evans and Brooke Alexandria Evans both of San Antonio, TX, Phillip Ross Turner of Dallas, TX and Jennifer Evans Turner of Knoxville, TN.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 412 Main Street, Greenville, MS.
