Butch Mitchell

Graveside services for Eugene Owen “Butch” Mitchell, Jr., 47, of Gulfport and formerly of Greenville will be at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 16 at the Greenville Cemetery.  He died Saturday, December 12 at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport. 

Born in Greenville, Butch grew up playing tennis and cheering for the Rebels and John Fourcade.  He earned his Eagle Scout badge, and graduated from Washington School in 1986.  After attending Ole Miss, Butch worked as a teaching Tennis Pro in Bay Point, FL.  In 2006, Butch was awarded the Mississippi Teaching Tennis Pro of the Year, while fostering the growth of the youth and adult tennis programs in Laurel.  Butch loved music, was a fan of Brett Farve and John McEnroe, and always will be an Ole Miss Rebel.

Butch is survived by his wife, Lissa L. Mitchell; his parents, Eugene Owen “Sonny” Mitchell, Sr., and Shirley Anne Mitchell; a sister, Lisa Caradine and husband Scott, nephew Miles and niece Haley.

There will be a visitation from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
