Calvin E. Ward was called home by his Father God on July 19, 2026, at the age of 83. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Benoit Union Church with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at 4:00 p.m. at Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurel, MS. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
He was born on August 15, 1942, in Jones County, Mississippi, and lived most of his life in Bolivar County in the Mississippi Delta. Calvin was a man of deep faith, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
For more than 20 years, he taught chemistry and coached basketball and baseball, inspiring generations of students with his knowledge, discipline, and encouragement both in the classroom and on the court. He also served as mayor of Benoit for 16 years, demonstrating his commitment to public service. A dedicated choir member at his church, he found joy in lifting full voice in worship. He was also a respected dog show judge and breeder with friends and cocker spaniels throughout the United States. In addition, he was a successful farmer who cherished the land and the values it represented.
He was preceded in death by his father, Calbert Ward, and his mother, Eunice Ward.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Dale Ward. He was the proud father of two sons: Ross Ward (Heather) and Kevin Ward (Nicole). His greatest joys were his grandchildren: Mary Ward, Katherine Ward, Don Ross Ward (Sara), Ryleigh Ward, Emery Ward, Reese Ward, Marshall Ward (Jalyssiah), and Anna Lacy Ward. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Ward (Wanda).
In addition to his immediate family, Calvin is lovingly remembered by his honorary family, Lane and Gina Jenkins and their children Mary Kinsley and Carson, whom he loved like family. He also leaves his beloved friend and constant companion, Albert Peacock, who loved him like a brother.
Calvin’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught, the lives he shaped, and the deep love he shared. Guided by his Christian faith, he touched countless hearts with his kindness, integrity, and compassion.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Nelson, Kirk Satterfield, Lynn Hardin, Don Ross Ward, Marshall Ward, and Carson Jenkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Benoit Methodist Church.
