Funeral services for Cecil Olean Smith Honeycutt, 90, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2015 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Monday, December 29, 2014 at her home. Burial will be in Greencrest Gardens, Belzoni under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
She was born on March 4, 1924 in Covington County, MS to Tom and Annie McKinney Smith. At an early age she and her family moved to Gooden Lake. On November 16, 1940 at the age of 16 she married Jessie Carl Honeycutt making their home in Belzoni. In 1953 they moved to Greenville.
Affectionately known as “Gert” and “Mamaw Honey” she was loved deeply by her family. She loved working in her yard, having the most beautiful flowers, especially her purple iris’s along the fence in her front yard. People would always stop and be in awe of how beautiful they were. She also always made sure to rake every leaf in her yard not leaving one. Even at the age of 90 she still worked in her yard until just recently.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Barbara H. Logan, and 3 sisters, Violet Carroll, Marie Clark and Lucille Walker. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Randy Rutledge of Greenville; 5 grandchildren, Brad Rutledge (Shelli) and Todd Rutledge (Kim) both of Greenville, Jessica R. Butler (Ken) of Philadelphia, MS, Stacy Logan (Twila) of Collierville, TN, Scott Logan of Byhalia, MS and numerous great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
