Funeral services for Mr. Charles “Chuck” Samuel Thomas, Jr. of Grenada, Mississippi and formerly of Greenville will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 27 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Monday, July 24 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Chuck was born August 28, 1936, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, the son of Charles Samuel and Nell Henry Thomas. He moved to Greenville with his family and graduated from Greenville High School. Chuck was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Greenville where he served as Sunday School teacher and choir member for many years. He was a member of the Greenville Noon Lions Club and was awarded the Lion of the Year Award. He also received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award from Lions Club International. Active in the local Boy Scouts of America, Chuck received the Silver Beaver Award from the Delta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Chuck enjoyed membership and performance in the American Red Cross Dinner Theater Chorus. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed squirrel, deer, and duck hunting.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Loyd Thomas of Grenada; a daughter, Deana T. Williams (Mickey) of Baker, Florida; a son, Charles S. Thomas III of Grenada; 3 sisters, Anne Diehl, Vicki Hartman, and Bill Weideman; 5 grandchildren, Brandy, Josh, Jerrod, Thomas, and Loyd; and 5 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the services on Thursday. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
