Charles Gardner Bevil

Family graveside services for Charles Gardner Bevil, 92, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Vaiden Cemetery in Vaiden, MS. He passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Indianola Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mr. Bevil was born in Bradford, Tennessee in 1928. In 1962, he moved his family to Greenville where he began working as an agent/yard master for the Illinois Central Railroad for several years. He would later become assistant vice president of marketing and sales for the Columbus and Greenville Railway in Greenville. Upon his retirement from the railroad industry, Mr. Bevil owned and operated Delta Department Hardware in downtown Greenville. He served as secretary of the Greenville Rotary Club for many years, and was serving as vice president of the Greenville Port Commission at his death.

Mr. Bevil is survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara, his two daughters, Carol Melton and Charla Sipes of Greenville, four grandchildren, Lindsey (Chauncey) Godwin of Ridgeland, MS, Lawson (Carrie) Melton of Cleveland, MS, Lee (Amanda) Sipes of Greenville, Laura (Jordy) White of Madison, MS and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Crocker of Fresno, California.

Mr. Bevil loved the Lord, and was a servant of His people. For over 50 years, he was a faithful member of his beloved church, First Baptist, Greenville. In his later years he loved to visit the nursing homes to give love, hope, and attention to the residents. He was the selfless patriarch of his adoring family and a strong tower of faith, hope, and trust in the Lord to all those around him. His trust in the Lord and his unwavering belief to always do the right thing were the principles that forever guided his life.

Though Mr. Bevil will be greatly missed, his family rejoices that his faith has been made sight, and he is in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
