Funeral services for Charles W. Gentry, 89, of Greenville will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 7 at Boone-Smith Funeral Home, 1580 S. Colorado, Greenville. He died on Sunday, June 4 at Delta Regional Medical Center. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Charles was born August 21, 1927 in Tippo, MS and was the only son of Julie and John Gentry. He grew up near Lambert, MS at Crowder where he helped his grandfather, William Riley Gentry farm cotton, corn, and hay crops.
He was an Army veteran of World War II of the 74th Order of the U.S. Army, Oahu, Hawaii. Charles had 39 years of service at Station S4 of the Tennessee Gas and Oil Company. He was a member of the VFW Post 4486, the Refugee Hunting Club, was a dedicated member of the American Legion for 63 years, was a Mason Grand Master of Greenville Lodge and a 33 degree Scottish Rite, and was a member of the Open Door Independent Baptist Church.
His grandmother was Bertha Sullivan Gentry and his uncles, aunt and cousins are numerous and were close to his heart as are his sister, Lelia Cook Brownlee and nephew. He is survived by his wife, Billie Gentry; daughter, Julia Glenn and son, John “Johnny” William Gentry, Sr., 3 grandchildren, John Gentry, Jr. (Tabitha), Amanda Warren (Michael), and Amy Mauney (Clint) and 9 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Clint Mauney, Michael Warren, Joe Tadlock, Alan Sansing, Chris Ruhs, and Brent Blocker.
There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
