Funeral services for Claiborne “Nig” Milton Johnston, Sr., 82, of Avon will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Greenville. There will be a visitation from 2:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in County Line Cemetery. He died on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at his home.
He was born on May 3, 1943, in Glen Allan to Lottie Marie and George Rayburn Johnston of Glen Allan. Throughout his life, he worked at Greenville Head and Block, Aqua Farms, and Farm Fresh. He ultimately started his own Seining business, Johnston Public Seining, which he owned and operated for 27 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 9 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Mr. Johnston is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty M. Johnston; son, Claiborne Milton Johnston, Jr. (Tracy) of Avon, MS; 3 daughters, Letty Dobbs (Tommy) of Swiftwater, MS, Gayla Rains (Patrick) of Great Falls, Montana and Karen Lefler (John Layne) of Pearl, MS; sister, Varine “Boo” Stroad of Florence, MS; 12 grandchildren, Karey Jones (Chris), Anna Manor (Michael), Karlyn Findley (Tyler), Millie Dye (Hunter), Macy Beth Childs (Bo), Johnston Nevels (Kelsey), Coy Lefler (Sydney), Gayden Nevels (Emily), Dalton Lefler (Mollie), Gatlin Nevels, Easton Lefler (Kenzlee), and Jaxon Nevels; and 11 great-grandchildren, Claya, Juliana, Autumn, Trace, Emmarie, Bryson, Anna Beth, Thomas, Sarah, Walker, and Topher.
