Clarice Smith Pittman Goodwin

Funeral services for Clarice Smith Pittman Goodwin, 88, of Sunflower will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 25 at Sunflower Baptist Church. She died Tuesday, August 22 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Card Funeral Home.

Clarice was born on May 10, 1929 the daughter of Myrtle Tackett Smith and Harmon Huntley Smith. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1948. On September 5, 1948 she married Earl Wright Pittman. Clarice worked as a part time clerk in the Sunflower Post Office and later worked as post master in Sunflower until her retirement. She was elected and held various offices with the US Postal Service on a state level.

Clarice was a faithful member of Sunflower Baptist Church for 70 years. She served as chairman of many committees and in other various capacities including serving as church clerk for 40 years. She organized a couples Sunday School class in 1972 and also taught many other classes. She was also in charge of the Children’s Church. Her devotion, love and sacrificial services were an example to others. Throughout the years Clarice was very instrumental in the planning and organizing of the class reunions for Indianola High School Class of 1948.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2008, and by her second husband Edward Lamar Goodwin and her siblings, John, Hayes, and Harmon Smith, Faye Smith Rasch, Charlene Smith Nolte, and Loyce Smith Ellis.

She is survived by 2 sons, Earl Wright Pittman, Jr. (Ettie) and Noel Bruce Pittman (Donna); daughter, Patricia Faye Pittman Wiygul (Bryant); 7 grandchildren, Kaylis Byrnes (Jonny), Ann-Hamilton Pittman Lloyd (Ryan), Callie Pittman Collins (Kendoll), Eleanor Pittman, Bryant Wiygul (Anna Elizabeth), Huntley Wiygul and Claire Wiygul; and 6 great grandchildren, Lawson, Parker and Kennedy Grace Byrnes, Hayes Lloyd, Sara Tounzen Collins, Farrell and Madeline Wiygul.

There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the church. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Sunflower Baptist Church, P. O. Box 175, Sunflower, MS 38778.

The family would like to thank special caregiver Doris Floyd for her care of Mrs. Goodwin.

Pallbearers will be Bryant Wiygul, Huntley Wiygul, Ryan Lloyd, Kendol Collins, John Riffey Parker, Park Taylor, Greg Griffith, Brian Manning and Hiram Allison.
